There are a number of different types of nursing home jobs available for those seeking to provide care for senior citizens in their homes. Depending on the senior citizen, the type of care they require will differ. While some may require more personal supervision than others, all need a level of compassion that most other care givers and staff aren’t skilled at providing. In order to fill any of these open nursing jobs, you’ll have to be skilled in social work skills as well as basic nursing skills.

The first area of nursing home jobs is general care. This requires having the ability to interact with those who are most in need of your help. A common example of this would be the home health aide, which is a highly trained caregiver who provides daily personal care to the residents in a nursing home. Most of the time, they are the ones that perform simple tasks such as bathing, feeding, or shopping for their seniors.

The other type of nursing home job is more complex. Many individuals enjoy being in an assisted living facility or skilled nursing facility for the elderly. They assist the resident in more physical activities and can even do specialized tasks such as light housekeeping, help with medication reminders and exercising the senior in a group setting. These individuals also receive extra academic and vocational training as well as extensive medical and emotional support. Depending on the needs of the patients, these individuals can sometimes be hired on a part-time basis as well.

If the senior resident requires more specialized assistance, there are also a number of agencies that specialize in this field. Some examples of these agencies include Senior Communities and Senior Care Services. Many of these agencies recruit and place staff into nursing home jobs in various communities. These individuals receive additional training and receive experience in various facets of nursing. Often times, depending on the senior citizen’s specific needs, this could mean either full time or part time nursing positions.

A few years ago, these agencies also employed military veterans and their spouses. These individuals were either employed full time or part time by these agencies. Many times military personnel want to be involved in public service and so elect to work in nursing homes. Military retirees can receive lower compensation as compared to those who have not served in the military. However, they often prefer this career and want to provide for their families.

Nursing home jobs offer steady employment for those interested in the nursing field. In addition, individuals will often receive excellent health benefits as well. Often times these individuals will receive pensions, medical insurance and housing. Regardless of the nursing home jobs that individuals choose, they will greatly improve their standard of living.
